Home » 300 Wind Turbine Hubs

As the global demand for renewable energy continues to surge, precision manufacturing plays a pivotal role in supporting the infrastructure behind wind power.
JTL has successfully completed the precision machining and C5-grade corrosion protection of over 300 wind turbine center hubs and bedplates, each designed for 2.5MW turbines.
These components, critical to wind turbine performance, were sourced from multiple global foundries including China, Germany and Brazil, ensuring a steady supply to meet GE’s production demands of 15 hubs per week.
Each hub casting, measuring 120″ in diameter, underwent rigorous machining to meet exacting specifications.
JTL was solely responsible for ensuring all machined features adhered strictly to GE’s specification.
To enhance efficiency and accuracy, JTL implemented a process improvement initiative targeting the machining of counterbores. Traditionally dimensioned from the cast surface, these features posed challenges in depth control.
By shifting to a center-based measurement approach and reducing reliance on manual grinding, JTL significantly improved consistency and reduced inspection time by up to 1.5 hours per feature.
This project highlights JTL’s capabilities in high-precision machining, process optimization, and global supply chain collaboration. By delivering over 300 fully machined and protected wind turbine hubs, we’ve played a vital role in supporting the renewable energy sector’s growth and reliability.
